Kansas Jayhawks Hire Duane Akina as Defensive Coach

The Kansas Jayhawks are enhancing their coaching staff by hiring veteran defensive backs coach Duane Akina as a senior analyst and nickelbacks coach. This decision comes as the team looks to improve its pass defense after finishing 102nd nationally in pass efficiency defense last season. Akina brings over 40 years of coaching experience, having previously served as the defensive pass game coordinator and safeties coach at Texas. He has also held coaching positions at Arizona, Hawaii, and Stanford, making him one of the most respected secondary coaches in college football. At Kansas, Akina will work under defensive coordinator DK McDonald and defensive backs coach Brandon Shelby.
